One of the most famous of all medieval books, the Book of Kells (ca. 800 CE) is an iconic symbol of Irish culture. Its lavish decoration and distinctive script are immediately recognizable. In this two-day workshop, instructor Meredith Klein will teach the letterforms that constitute this hand, and participants will also explore various decorated elements and capital letters associated with this script.

PLEASE NOTE: Although appropriate for all levels of experience, a familiarity with broad-edge lettering is encouraged for those who register for this workshop.

INSTRUCTOR Meredith Klein is a calligrapher from San Francisco. Meredith has studied with many internationally renown calligraphers, focusing on Blackletter and Uncial letter forms. She regularly teaches for Friends of Calligraphy, has taught in-person and online courses for many guilds, and has served as a guest instructor at the Mills College History of the Book class. Her work has been published in Bound & Lettered as well as the Friends of Calligraphy's Alphabet Journal. Her Blackletter appears in the limited edition artist book, Swords and Angels.
