Complete Beginner Intro to Broad-Edge Calligraphy

If you ever wanted to try broad-edge calligraphy ... or if you tried and were frustrated ... or you would like a complete beginner refresher, you are invited to attend a FREE one-evening complete beginner intro to broad-edge calligraphy.

We will cover:

1) the supplies needed to get started with the most success

2) the basic concepts of broad-edge calligraphy: letter height, slope, and pen angle. Each of these elements contribute to the form of the variety of historic hands that are written with a broad-edge pen.

3) how to make corrections for common beginner issues (ink too thick or too thin, not preparing the nib properly, how to line up the pen to the paper)

This intro will be a helpful aid to those who want to take Jane Shibata's Uncialicious: An Intro to Uncial online class on four Tuesdays beginning January 9 offered by Calligraphy Guild Pittsburgh. The class is open to all levels - beginner to experienced.

Instructor: Karen Nordstrom Roberts

Sunday, December 3, 2023
