AN INTRODUCTION TO UNCIAL

Four Tuesdays: Jan 9-16-23-30 • 6:30 - 8:30pm EST via Zoom

Thinking Uncial is stodgy, old, and limited? Register for this course to learn how the Uncial hand can gain a 21st-century flair. In existence for thousands of years, Uncial possesses many beautiful qualities and characteristics that can be employed today.

Taught by Jane Shibata, this four-session course will cover the foundations of traditional Uncial, and then the Uncial alphabet will be analyzed and modified to adapt it for contemporary use.

Appropriate for all levels.

Instructor JANE SHIBATA is a professor at Santa Monica College in Santa Monica, California and also runs a lettering arts design business in Los Angeles. A long-time member of the Society for Calligraphy Southern California, she has served as a board member and coordinated multiple outreach events. Jane has also taught many workshops both locally and nationally, as well as teaching at four international conferences.
