Our first fall Work / Play Day topic is Walnut Ink Inspirations.
Come explore the many ways to incorporate walnut ink into your calligraphic art.
Walnut ink was historically made from real black walnuts by boiling them over the stove according to passed down recipes.
Modern walnut ink is made from peat and/or other earthy substances. Some inks come pre-mixed while others come as crystals that can be reconstituted.
The beauty is that walnut ink accepts other additives such as gold paint and other metallic Pearl-Ex or Mica powders.
Walnut ink makes a rich writing ink but it can be thinned for watercolor effects.
Come have fun with walnut ink!
Bring your calligraphy questions, projects you've completed, or works-in-progress to share with your fellow calligraphers.
FYI
You may drop off pieces for the Monroeville Library exhibit just prior to the Play Day between 12:45 and 1 p.m. at the FRONT door of the Margaret Morrison Building.
